The former facility shares a long history with the Hattiesburg community, supporting jobs, the local economy, and nearby neighborhoods – and that shared history continues to guide our community involvement today.
Meet the Team
Project Partners Roles and Responsibilities:
The Hercules-Arcadis-Tatum team, the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA), and the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) are working together alongside the City of Hattiesburg to ensure the safe and efficient cleanup of the former facility. Hercules meets regularly with the USEPA, MDEQ, and technical advisors to coordinate efforts, avoid overlap, and share updates on the site work.
USEPA is the lead regulator for environmental activities and leads the formal Superfund community involvement process. Community members who would like information about EPA's community involvement opportunities can contact EPA's Community Involvement Coordinator or visit EPA's Hercules Superfund site webpage.
MDEQ is the state regulator for environmental activities.
The City of Hattiesburg provides drinking water and other city services for the area, and works with project partners on local matters and environmental activities, when needed.
Hercules is the current owner and is actively conducting environmental activities at the site. Hercules pays for all environmental activities. Environmental activities are conducted under EPA and MDEQ oversight following EPA approved plans.
Arcadis is a contractor to Hercules and leads environmental activities.
Tatum serves as the Community Involvement Coordinator for Hercules at the Site.
Community Partnerships
Hercules works with local community organizations and the City of Hattiesburg on community activities and opportunities to share information about the former facility. Current involvement includes sponsoring the Historic Mobile Street Renaissance and Music Festival and providing site updates to neighborhood and community groups.
